Lake Poem

The sun assailed the sky, commanding
families to barbeque and frolic
I came along to watch the goose processions
and solitary planes trailing after
one another. Moving in subtle ways the trees
surround me, casting shadows dark as night, under which
a small band gathers, sounding cello, guitar, hearty laugh
I settle beside my bicycle on the dappled
grass. All but a corner of the Lake is hidden,
as green as the world around it,
like a mirror smudged, or a picture of heaven;
allowing only the most attentive of eyes to catch it
